Lightning Emerged

Lockheed P38 Lightning

Sixty five years after it crash-landed on a beach in Wales in 1942, an American Lockheed P38 Lightning fighter plane has emerged from the surf and sand where it lay buried.

Pilot Lt Robert Elliott walked away from the incident without a scratch but tragically went missing in action just three months later serving in the American’s Tunisia campaign in North Africa.

The World War II relic long forgotten by the US government and unknown to the British public has suddenly reappeared in 2007 due to unusual conditions which caused the sands to shift and erode.
