Destiny

Dali with Disney

It was in 2003, that ‘Destiny’ an animated short film appeared after lying forgotten and unfinished for almost 60 years! The film tells the story of Chronos, the personification of time and the inability to realize his desire for a mortal. The scenes mixes a series of surrealist paintings by Dalí.

The production took its start in 1945, 58 years before it was completed in 2003 and was a collaboration between Walt Disney and Spanish painter Salvador Dalí.

Salvador Dali and Walt Disney’s “Destiny” was produced by Dali and John Hench and the project was kept secret. Salvador Dalí’s mission was to prepare the 1:06 minute long sequence that combined animation with real dancers and special effects. The film’s story was described by Dalí as ‘a magical display of life’s problems into tomorrow’s Labyrinth’ while Walt Disney said it was ‘a simple story of a young girl looking for real love’.
