Marcello Mastroianni and Colin Firth
Marcello Mastroianni and Colin Firth
Guido Anselmi vs George Falconer

It is a common notion that the guise of Colin Firth in ‘A Single Man’ (2009) is a nod to Marcello Mastroianni’s in Fellini’s ‘8½’ (1963). To me it is rather an exercise in the period style of the 1960s when the film is set. Also, one might expect that Falconer’s glasses were designed by fashion designer/director Tom Ford but they were picked by Colin Firth himself who found them in a props box.
