As a film director, Rouben Mamoulian was credited with innovations in sound, camera technique, and the use of color in film. Comprising approximately 59,000 items, the Mamoulian Papers at the Library of Congress (Washington, DC) contain correspondence, diaries, film and playscripts, production material, notes, speeches and writings, printed matter, scrapbooks, photographs, and memorabilia documenting his life and work in interaction with major figures in the arts and entertainment of the twentieth century.
