Sophia Loren (30) flew to Moscow together with Carlo Ponti for a three day visit in July 1965 to attend the fourth Moscow Film Festival where ‘Marriage Italian Style’ (Matrimonio all’italiana) was presented at the Palace of the Congresses in the Kremlin. The trip included a reception at the Italian embassy and visits of several Russian attractions, including the the Red Square, the Church of St. Nicholas in Khamovniki, the Novodevichy Convent and Cemetery and the Kremlin. She won the Best Actress award at closing ceremonies. Valerii Gende-Rote followed and photographed her stay in Moscow.
