Fishing with Marilyn

Marilyn Monroe

Arthur Miller fishing with his wife Marilyn Monroe (Amagansett Beach, East Hampton, Long Island, NY, 1957) photographed by Sam Shaw

Arthur Miller wearing shorts and a cap and holding a fishing rod while looking at a Marilyn Monroe frolicking by the beach in her white one-piece swimwear. Together with dozens of others this scene was caught on Kodachrome by photographer and friend Sam Shaw on Amagansett Beach (East Hampton, Long Island, NY) near their summer home. Living in New York City, the couple rented a simple farmhouse for the 1957-58 summer seasons on Hamlin Lane owned then by the Potter family. Monroe often said that the two years she spent living in Amagansett were the happiest years in her life.
